arf20.com design philosophy
ARFNET is devoted to the love and tribute to the past internet, privacy, and free and open source software. For that reason, this site must follow these rules:
- Technical rules
- Be usable in Internet Explorer 1 and Netscape
- HTTP allowed, and obsolete HTTPS protocols like SSLv2, SSLv3, TLSv1, and TLSv1.1 (+ modern protocols)
- JS is strictly forbidden unless necessary for modern concepts like streaming
- only necessary HTML5
- PHP as backend language
- No cookies whatsoever, except the PHP session in arfCloud, which is obviously not shared with any party.
- Design rules
- Leave default HTML font
- Famous tiled background
- Standard header for all pages
- Desktop resolutions in mind, no mobile friendliness
- Anything broken for MacOS or iOS (Safari), left as is. Apple does not deserve ARFNET.
- Generally just take the minimum effort, the absolute easiest approach, because I don't have fucking time for anything.
- Licensing rules
- Everything must be under GPLv3+ license
- Hence, the source of everything must be made publicly available, and so it is under the ARFNET github organization
